Seizure Onset Zone localization and advanced analysis of high-frequency intracranial EEG

Epilepsy is one of the most prevalent neurological diseases. One-third of patients has to undergo an invasive surgical resection of epileptogenic tissue. To achieve seizure freedom in these patients, the localization of epileptogenic tissue is crucial. Currently used localization methods are not utilizing computational power and advanced signal processing techniques, which are now available and has the potential to improve the invasive treatment of epilepsy substantially.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Metrology with Cold Quantum Objects and Fibre Networks

We present the project of creating a partner network - intersectoral cooperation network between research organizations and industry with a focus on the development of quantum technologies in the Czech Republic. The project will launch a joint research in metrology with cold quantum objects, focusing on applications for new photonic services, and it will also contribute to increase the competitiveness of Czech industry in the field of telecommunication and photonics.

Dynamic impact test as a method of analyses of mechanical properties of protective coatings used in industry

The aim of this project is a dynamic impact analysis of a protective coatings. This unique method can be used to evaluation of an impact resistance and impact wear of the protective coatings used in a wide range of industry sectors, such as a mechanical engineering, automotive industry or energetics. Nowadays, there are only two institutes in Europe with research and development focused on thy dynamic impact test – Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and Institute of Scientific Instruments, CAS (ISI). For dynamical impact testing can be used tester developed on ISI.

Ecological role of polyhydroxyalkanoates in cyanobacteria

Cyanobacteria are ubiquitous Gram-negative prokaryotes capable of performing oxygenic photosynthesis. These microbes are extremely environmentally important since they are crucial players in oxygen generation and CO2 and N2 fixation on the Earth. Furthermore, cyanobacteria are also employed in biotechnology. Numerous cyanobacteria, similarly as many non-photosynthesizing prokaryotes, accumulate polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), polyesters which serve primarily as storage materials.

Multidimensional nonlinear optomechanics of levitated nanosystems

Optomechanics of levitating objects is building its theoretical and experimental foundations in interaction of photons and mechanical states of an object levitating in vacuum. This concept is unique in (i) tunability of key parameters of the optical trap in individual axes leading to desired non-linearity and dimensionality, (ii) relatively massive object oscillating with low friction and interacting with a thermal bath with tunable temperature and (iii) decreasing energy of the object and bringing it closer to the basic quantum state.
