Success of a Scientist from IPM CAS: Microscopic Image by Ondřej Ambrož Selected by a Global Instrument Manufacturer
Ondřej Ambrož, a member of the Microscopy for Materials Science research group at the ISI CAS, has achieved a significant international success. One of his microscopic images was selected by Buehler, a leading global manufacturer of metallographic equipment, for inclusion in the company’s corporate calendar (August 2026) as well as in its official product catalogue.
The awarded image was acquired using a light microscope at 200× magnification and depicts the microstructure of MS1 maraging steel after color etching. Color etching enables clear and high-contrast visualization of the fine internal structure of materials produced by additive manufacturing. The image vividly illustrates microstructural features characteristic of 3D-printed metallic materials, combining high scientific value with striking visual aesthetics.
“I greatly appreciate that my image was selected by Buehler, a company that ranks among the world’s leaders in metallography. I see this as recognition not only of the image itself, but also of the long-term work of our research group in the field of microscopy and the study of microstructures of advanced materials,” says Ondřej Ambrož.
The inclusion of the image in Buehler’s international promotional materials confirms the high level of research conducted at IPM CAS and contributes to the visibility of Czech science in the field of materials science on the international stage.
