The 4th Japanese-Czech-Slovak Joint Seminar on Applied Electromagnetics continues from the tradition established in 1992. Previous JCS Seminars were held in Piestany (Slovakia, June 1992), Kyoto (Japan, January 1994), Prague (Czech Republic, July 1995). The JCS seminars are supported by the Japan Society of Applied Electromagnetics (JSAEM), in cooperation with its counterparts in Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. The seminar will be hosted by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, in cooperation with the Institute of Scientific Instruments in Brno (Czech Republic) and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic). The JCS seminar just precedes the Soft Magnetic Materials (SMM 13) Conference in Grenoble, France, to be held on September 24-26, 1997.
Leading concept of the JCS Seminar is to bring together scientists and engineers dealing with electromagnetic field in a variety of applications. It provides a forum for presentation of advances in the study and application of electromagnetic field in materials. Simultaneously, it promotes a cooperation between universities, research institutes and industry in these countries.

The JCS Seminar will be based on oral presentation of papers. The conference language for oral presentations and all printed conference materials will be English. The presentation time is 20 minutes including discussion.
Registration desk will be open on Wednesday, September 17, at 16:00 and during the breaks. All participants are invited to Welcome Party on Wednesday evening at 20:00.
Short versions of papers should be received by the local coordinators till May 31, 1997. Accepted digests will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Electrical Engineering. Full papers will be submitted for publication to International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics (Elsevier), Journal of Electrical Engineering, Journal Acta Politechnica and Acta Technica CSAV.
The 4th JCS Joint Seminar on Applied Electromagnetics will be held in Stará Lesná, Slovakia. This famous place is situated at the foot of the Lomnicky Peak massif in the eastern part of the High Tatra Mountains.

Even if the autumn in High Tatra
Mountains is according to a lot of people the most beautiful season, one can expect either
usually stable sunny weather with temperatures reaching 25oC (degrees
centigrade), or there can be rain or even snow in higher levels. The altitude of the
highest peaks is about 2600 m above sea level.
Therefore be ready to have convenient clothing for the case of warm and cold weather down
to 10oC.
Also good-quality touristic shoes are strongly recommended for touristic trips, because
the rocky paths can be sometimes slippery.
